In a day of a lot of bad Penguins/Canadien takes... this is probably one of the dumbest.

Zooks & KK going head 2 head with Sid & Malkin and outplaying them in their playoff debuts. You love to see it

All due respect even if they lost out on lafreniere they would still get 8th overall which is really damn good in this draft. Now they will likely be 15th and maybe they get a steal there but it’s still not a top 10 pick.

I’ll eat my hat if they make it into the next round but if they get spanked all I would say is that no one likes mediocrity. As a flames fan I would know

dreadful series by the Pens...but this game they didn't even want to play....heads should roll....The Habs were just ok....the forwards are not good enough and Chariot, Petry and Weber are not enough....even if Price is all world. The Habs Power Play was atrocious an embarrassment to professional hockey...did they have any shots on goal even?

I don't think it was that much of an upset. Pens were playing like crap when the season ended and Coach Sullivan is a certified moron.

Who is Lefreniere? The LA Kings jersey that I bought was for Lafreniere.

Also, people might want to dial back the hyperbole on this kid. You've referred to him as generational. Funny how we get a generational talent like every other year now. Crosby was generational. McDavid was generational. He may become an elite 50-goal scoring winger...or he could be the next Taylor Hall. Nice asset. But nothing extraordinary. Its also possible he becomes the next Puljijarvi. He also plays the least important position.

Taylor Hall is merely a "nice asset" but "nothing extraordinary"?

He may not be McJesus, but I think he's on a level just below "generational" which, as a term, I would agree has been somewhat diluted.

Perhaps we need to have "Godlike" as a new category that is on the top of the pyramid of talent.

Godlike = Orr, Gretzky, Lemieux, Crosby, McJesus

How about that?

Generational? Guys like Eichel, Matthews, Kane, et al. would be there.

Pittsburgh doesn’t have JMFJ on the ice down a goal in the final minute!p !?! They deserved to lose.....

You can probably order your Penguins Lafreniere jersey right now....even if Edmonton loses, the hockey gods probably feel like they’ve done enough for the Oilers.

When this all started I said there would be some big upsets and the Pens/Oilers would end up with the #1 pick.....but I was just being silly.

I would probably put Hall a tier or two below that. He reminds me a lot of Phil Kessel in a sense, he’s an elite player but if you’re going to make him the centrepiece to build around and rest your teams success mainly on his shoulders chances are you won’t succeed. But that’s just my own opinion

Somewhat? Man, they hype a generational talent every year, and that’s not what generational means at all.

The last two I bought into were McDavid and Crosby, and those two delivered for their teams (unfortunately for me, in regards to the latter)

I’m with you that he could be that level under them, but man, to me that’s a really clear line.

The “generational talent” thing is really losing its edge. What will the new term be when the phrase has lost all value?

I agree we shouldn’t be throwing the generational term around (and I think lafreniere will be a tier below) but when a kid starts breaking the aforementioned Crosby’s totals in the Q the lofty expectations of a potentially franchise altering player happen.

Thinkin back on some of the times the phrase has been tossed around.

If Lafrenière hits that level of Tavares, Stamkos, Matthews, or especially MacKinnon, his new team should be thrilled.

Jury is out on Hughes. I’m not willing to call him a bust yet at 19, that would be foolish and unfair. I think he still has a chance to make it into the above list. He’s not a Crosby or McDavid as toted prior.

But there is always a chance someone Yaks it up, too.
